We are 18 emerging curators and students at UNSW | Art & Design. As part of Dr. Zanny Begg's Curating: Social Space class, we have the fantastic opportunity to create an exciting and engaging art intervention at the beloved O'Neill's Adventureland in Western Sydney.

Dr. Zanny Begg is an artist, curator, theorist and lecturer at UNSW | Art & Design. Her research areas include socially engaged practices, border politics, critical spatial politics, adaptable architecture, making art in public space and experimental curatorial practices. She was director of Tin Sheds Gallery (2010-2014) and her work is published in Art and Text, Chto Delat?, Moscow Art Magazine, among other publications. Zanny has exhibited widely in Australia and overseas.


Brittany is an emerging curator and arts educator seeking to open up the world of contemporary art to new and marginalised audiences. Building on her Bachelor of Art Theory, Brittany is undertaking a Masters of Curating and Cultural Leadership at UNSW Art & Design while interning for Chippendale Creative Precinct. Brittany worked as an Educator at the 19th Biennale of Sydney and her curatorial projects include Next Generation at Ng Art Gallery and Object Urbanites at Maitland Regional Gallery.

Bronwen Dugan is an emerging curator, installation artist, and independent arts professional who is passionate about public art and its capacity to engage us as individuals, and unite us as communities. Bronwen has a degree in Visual Arts and is nearing completion of a Master of Curating and Cultural Leadership at UNSW Art & Design. She is a member of the Manly Arts Festival Working Group and recently co-curated Express Yourself 2015, at Manly Art Gallery & Museum.

Emma is passionate about art and the community. Born and bred in Canada, Emma completed her BFA at Queen’s University in 2013. She was involved with the Agnes Etherington Art Centre as a docent (2010-13), and developed school and summer camp programs as a Gallery Educator (2012). She has since interned at Project Gallery and was involved in an art activation project at Field Trip music festival (2013-14). Emma is undertaking her Master of Curating and Cultural Leadership at UNSW Art & Design.

Chloe has a background in fine arts, having studied Art History and Theory at Sydney University for one year and then attending National Art School. She completed her Bachelor of Fine Arts (majoring in painting) in 2013, from which her graduate works were selected for the Saatchi & Saatchi Exhibition. This interest in art practice and theory has led her to embark on a Masters of Curating and Cultural leadership at UNSW Art and Design. Last Adventure will be her first curatorial endeavour.



Carrie Jiaying Lu is an international student from China. She graduated from the University of Toronto, Canada with a bachelor's degree in marketing in 2013, and is currently completing her Master of Art Administration at UNSW Art & Design. Her travel experiences in Korea, Taiwan and Shanghai Biennales in 2014 further extended her interest in curatorial studies. She has worked as an assistant curator at the Academy and Research Department of China Art Museum, Shanghai.

Katie is a Sydney based emerging writer and curator. She graduated from The University of Technology, Sydney with a degree in Communications majoring in Writing and Cultural Studies, and is currently completing her Masters of Art Administration at UNSW Art and Design. In 2013 she curated major works from UTS Writing Lab in an exhibition at Skunkworks Artspace, and was published in Issue #27 of Runway: Australian Experimental Art. Katie is a part of the 2015 ARCHIVE_ Young Writer’s Program.


Louise Thoeming is an emerging curator and Sydney native. Her Masters of Art Administration has seen her travel to study the Korea and Taiwan Biennials. With a Bachelor’s degree in Architecture, she developed keen interest in public space and the meeting point between art and architecture. She has exhibited work at the Sydney University Architecture Graduate exhibition and at the Silo Specific project. She is working at Freeman Ryan Design as an exhibition designer.

Natalie is a creative practitioner who is enthusiastic about developing exhibition opportunities in alternative spaces. Based in southwest Sydney, she has developed Stepping Up Macarthur (2013-2015) and Illuminate: Putting the spotlight on local artists (2014). Natalie has been a guest speaker at TedxYouth@Sydney (2013), Creative Pros: Speeding Networking (2014) and Little Orange Artists Forum (2015). She is currently completing an honours thesis on cultural space activation.

Katie is an emerging curator currently based in Sydney. With a background as a photo-media artist, she is currently undertaking a number of curatorial projects with emerging artists across various disciplines and is also completing a Master of Curating and Cultural Leadership at UNSW Art and Design. Katie is currently the co-curator and manager of The Corner Cooperative, works at White Rabbit Gallery, is part of the Kudos Committee and interns for Kaldor Public Art Projects.

Elena Yeo has worked in theatre as an actor, producer and stage manager for over ten years. She is the Creative Producer of 3rd Culture Theatre, and has staged work in Shanghai, Singapore and London. She holds a Masters degree in Performance Making from Goldsmiths College, London, and is currently working towards a Masters degree in Curating and Cultural Leadership at UNSW Art & Design.


Cheng has worked in education for nine years. She holds a Bachelor’s degree in Education from the University of Melbourne, and is now completing her Master of Art Administration at UNSW Art & Design. She joined the Biennale of Sydney volunteer team in 2004, and also worked in the Department of Education at the Power Station of Art for the 10th Shanghai Biennale. Her passion for art has inspired her to travel to well-established museums and various exhibitions around the world.

Xiaochen Zhou is an international student from China. He graduated from the Nanjing University of Arts with a bachelor's Music Education, and is currently doing a double master degree in Curating and Cultural Leadership at UNSW Art & Design and Musicology in China. He has a passion for both music and visual arts. He is now trying to develop his talent in exhibition programming and expand his knowledge in curatorial projects.
